SPIR VNE SYSTEMS started out as Vestnorsk Engineering ,VNE. It was founded in1989 providing products and services within structural and mechanical design to shipyards and general mechanical industry.
Since then it has turned out to be one of the most versatile product and engineering companies specializing as a supplier of complex systems mainly to the offshore oil and gas industry, but also to the marine and defence industry.  

Spring 2010 the company was taken over by Køhlergruppen in Stavanger to be a part of their industrial group of companies.

Køhlergruppen stands behind companies like Sørco, Apply, Nemo Engineering, Maritime systems, Teknisk Bureau, Leirvik Module Technology, Nordialog and also SPIR.
